Harpist Liane James is rapidly gaining recognition as an accomplished solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. She is a versatile performer and educator, passionate about promoting the harp as a multifaceted instrument across all genres.
Liane is the principal harpist of the Ontario Philharmonic and regularly performs with various orchestras and ensembles. She particularly enjoys working with choirs and has been featured in several concerts of significant works for harp & choir. Liane is in demand as a solo performer with a busy schedule of prominent public events, weddings, receptions, and private functions. Concert highlights include performing at a reception for HRH Princess Anne, performing live on stage with Canadian tenor Michael Burgess, and appearing as soloist for Ravel's Introduction & Allegro with the Ontario Philharmonic.
Liane James was the vice-president of the Toronto chapter of the American Harp Society from 2013 through 2018. She is a registered music teacher with the ORMTA, and runs an active harp studio in Ajax. Her students have won awards at music festivals and hold gold medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music for the highest grades received on harp exams in Ontario. Liane was the harp adjudicator for the 2016 Stratford Kiwanis Festival for the Performing Arts and has adjudicated for the Toronto Harp Society Scholarship Auditions.
Liane holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto, where she studied with Judy Loman, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. Liane is an alumna of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
